How to generate LocalBusiness schema
- Pick the most specific business type in the list, like Dentist or Plumber.
- Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your Google Business Profile.
- Add phone, website and price range. Use the full phone format with country code if you can.
- Fill in the full address. The tool warns you if a required field is missing.
- Click “Copy with tag” and paste the code into the head of your homepage or contact page.
- Test the live page with Google's Rich Results Test.
What LocalBusiness schema does
Schema markup is a small block of code that labels facts on your page so search engines don't have to guess. The schema.org LocalBusiness type describes a physical business or a branch of one, and it has many sub-types for specific industries.
Google's local business structured data guide lists only two required properties: name and address. It recommends extras like telephone, url, opening hours, geo coordinates and price range, and it advises using the most specific sub-type possible. This tool covers the required fields and the most useful recommended ones.
Limits worth knowing
- Schema is not a ranking boost. It helps Google understand you. It does not replace a good profile, reviews or useful pages.
- Markup must match the page. If your schema says one phone number and the page shows another, you create the exact confusion schema is meant to fix.
- No hours or geo yet. This generator keeps things simple. If you need opening hours, several departments or service areas, add them by hand or ask me for help.
- No self-serving review stars. Google's review snippet rules say a LocalBusiness page that controls reviews about itself can't get review stars, so I left ratings out on purpose.
When to use it
- When you launch a new website or a new location page.
- After you change your address, phone or business name.
- When an SEO audit says structured data is missing.
- When your theme or plugin adds generic Organization markup and you need proper local data.
Common mistakes
- Leaving placeholder text. If the name still says “Your Business Name”, fill it in before you copy.
- Adding schema twice. A plugin and a hand-pasted block can clash. Keep one source.
- Mismatched NAP. Check your details with the NAP consistency checker first.
- Never testing. A missing comma breaks the whole block. Always run the Rich Results Test.
